Xiaohongshu Usage Guidelines (6)

51. Why can’t I find my own post in search?
It’s possible that your post ranks too low, making it hard to find. Alternatively, your post might have low-quality content or violations, preventing it from being indexed.

52. How can I check if my post has been indexed?
You can use the note indexing query tool on Grey Dolphin Data (灰豚数据).

53. What kind of posts get indexed?
Posts from high-quality accounts are prioritized for indexing.

Posts that won’t be indexed include:
   - Posts that violate platform rules.
   - Posts with sensitive words or unresolved violations.
   - Low-quality content.
   - Content deemed inappropriate for display (e.g., excessive promotion, flaunting wealth).
   - Posts still under review.
   - Posts from accounts that are restricted or banned.
   - Plagiarized or reposted content.

54. Does not being indexed significantly impact traffic?
Yes, it does. If a post isn’t indexed, it means the platform doesn’t recognize it as valuable, resulting in restricted recommendation traffic and zero search traffic.

55. Should I tag a location in my post?
If your content is related to local businesses, travel, or education, tagging a location is highly recommended as it can attract significant local traffic. For content like beauty or fashion, which isn’t strongly location-based, tagging is optional.

56. Can I pay for likes?
While the idea of "manual intervention" to boost initial engagement is valid (many viral posts are not entirely organic), the likes you can purchase are often low-quality "instant likes" with short user retention times and low interaction rates. These can be flagged by the platform as "cheating," resulting in limited traffic.

A better approach is to have at least 10 people like, comment, and save your post shortly after publishing to build a strong foundation for more traffic.

57. How is the interaction rate calculated?
Interaction Rate = (Likes + Saves + Comments) / Views

If the interaction rate is less than 3%, the chances of the post becoming viral are low. Reevaluate the alignment between your title and content, and ensure your content is valuable and engaging.

58. What makes a post high-quality?
   - Click-through rate (CTR): ≥11%. Optimize your title and cover image to increase views.
   - Interaction rate: ≥3%. Enhance your content and encourage engagement to boost likes, saves, and comments.
   - Conversion rate: Improve your content and profile to increase follower conversions.

59. How can I increase comments on my posts?
   - (1) Ask questions at the end of your post to engage users, such as "Which of these three outfits do you think looks best?"
   - (2) Respond to "trolls" with humor to defuse controversial comments.
   - (3) Create suspense by leaving out details like brand names, prices, or purchase methods, prompting users to comment to find out more.

60. How can I check for sensitive words?
Use the "Lingke Query" (零克查询) tool.

61. Why do many Xiaohongshu users add emojis in their posts?
Xiaohongshu’s user demographics:
   - Over 87% are female.
   - Over 80% are under 35 years old.
   - Most users are from first- and second-tier cities.

Women are more responsive to emojis, which can enhance their reading experience. Adding emojis to your content can make it more engaging for female users.

62. How can I make users want to share my content?
Evaluate your content with the following questions:
   - (1) Does my content provide conversation topics for readers?
   - (2) Does my content express thoughts or feelings that readers want to share?
   - (3) Does my content help readers build or reinforce their desired social image?
   - (4) Does my content help readers assist their friends, family, or colleagues, creating altruistic value?
   - (5) Does my content make readers appear more sophisticated, wealthy, or socially competitive when shared?

63. How do I choose a niche?
Most niches are highly saturated, so combining niches (e.g., pets + humor + food) can reduce competition and make your content stand out.

64. What’s the best time to post?
I’ve tested various times, including 1 a.m., 3–4 a.m., 7 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11 p.m. In my experience, post performance isn’t tied to timing. Good content will attract traffic regardless of when it’s posted, unless the platform’s algorithm is flawed.

65. Can I manage two accounts simultaneously?
Absolutely. Many creators manage 3–5 accounts at the same time. Managing just one account can lead to "data anxiety," where you feel overly attached to likes and engagement metrics.

66. What if I can’t post daily?
While daily posting helps grow an account, it’s not mandatory. Focus on creating content that contributes to platform growth. For example:
   - Encourage comments to increase user engagement time.
   - Add dense, valuable information to extend reading time.
   - Post videos instead of text for higher user retention.

67. Does posting frequency affect traffic?
Yes. Higher posting frequency helps the platform categorize your account. Consistency and valuable content are key.

68. How can I verify if my content direction is correct?
Assess your content’s value:
   - Does it help users gain something or avoid losses?
   - Does it provide emotional or practical value?
   - Is the information density sufficient?

Don’t stress over data. Instead, focus on identifying patterns in your successful posts. Accounts and posts are consumables—if something isn’t working, change it. The true value lies in the common elements of your 100 successful posts and the experience you gain.

69. If my account isn’t performing well, should I start a new one?
New or old accounts both have pros and cons. Old accounts have a basic foundation (e.g., likes and historical data), but they may lack niche categorization.

If your account hasn’t been flagged for violations, there’s no need to start over. Focus on creating niche-specific content and be patient. Ensure your content provides value to users.

If you do start a new account, avoid changing your Xiaohongshu ID initially, as it can only be changed once. Also, don’t certify as a professional account if you plan to sell the account later, as certification cannot be undone.

70. What if I can’t consistently create content? Is my direction wrong?
Not necessarily. The issue might be that your niche is too broad.

For example, teaching photography is a broad topic that makes it hard to plan future posts. However, narrowing it down to "how to photograph food" creates endless possibilities:
   - How to photograph breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner, or late-night snacks (time dimension).
   - How to photograph dishes at small eateries, restaurants, or hotels (location dimension).
   - Other dimensions: food types, lighting, equipment, etc.

The more specific your focus, the more content ideas you’ll generate.
