Xiaohongshu Usage Guidelines (4)

Back

31. What is Xiaohongshu's recommendation mechanism?
Xiaohongshu uses a "centralized distribution" recommendation model:
   (1) The platform extracts high-frequency keywords from your post based on the tags you set and recommends it to users who might be interested, forming the first wave of traffic.
   (2) The algorithm evaluates whether the recommended users engage with your post.
   (3) If the data meets the threshold for the first wave of recommendations, the post enters a larger traffic pool, gaining more exposure opportunities.
   (4) This process repeats until user engagement with your post stabilizes.

This mechanism creates a "winner-takes-all" effect, where popular posts tend to remain popular.

32. What type of content violates Xiaohongshu's rules?
   (1) Recommending products or brands without certification is likely to result in traffic restrictions.
   (2) Avoid creating "pitfalls" or "blacklist" content, as these often include prohibited words.
   (3) Any mention of drug efficacy is prohibited.
   (4) Words related to amulets, religion, or temples are not allowed.
   (5) Never include QR codes for redirection.
   (6) Avoid using overly common images or videos that are widely circulated on Xiaohongshu, as they may be flagged as plagiarism and restricted.
   (7) A high like-to-save ratio (e.g., many likes but few saves) is often flagged as suspicious and may be considered as manipulated engagement.

33. How can I find all of Xiaohongshu's rules?
Search for "Community Guidelines" on the Xiaohongshu homepage to view all the platform's rules and regulations.

34. What is the lifecycle of a Xiaohongshu post?
For organic posts without additional traffic boosts:
   (1) Traffic changes are most noticeable within the first 7 days.
   (2) After 30 days, the post stops appearing in recommendation feeds.
   (3) It will only appear passively in search results after that.
